The Respirtech inCourage is our favorite airway clearance system (for most users). One of the reasons is that it is built like a tank. It runs and runs, for tens of thousands of hours. The inCourage is more powerful than many other airway clearance systems. The RespirTech inCourage system provides proven & effective airway clearance therapy, after all, it was designed by a father of a child with CF (cystic fibrosis). All components, from the vest to the control panel have been designed to maximize ease of use and improved comfort. And because it is comfortable to use, users tend to do their treatments more regularly, enhancing treatment outcomes. This system was designed for patients with respiratory conditions like Cystic Fibrosis (CF), bronchiectasis, and neuromuscular conditions. What’s included with the RespirTech inCourage Airway Clearance System?

The inCourage is designed for use with 120Volts AC
All of us at Medafore hope that this will change soon. But don’t despair – you can always use a step-down transformer to use the inCourage anywhere in the world. If you live in a country that has a 220V power grid, you will need a minimum 500W step-down transformer. These devices reduce the voltage from 220 to 120V. They are available worldwide, therefore we encourage our clients to buy them locally as they are expensive to ship overseas.
HFCWO therapy combined with CoughAssist or VitalCough Insufflator Exsufflator
As you already know, the inCourage does a great delivering fast, yet gentle air pulses to the chest to clear the airways. These air pulses work to shorten treatment time when compared to manual percussion therapy and increase the amount of mucus removed. Using HFCWO (High-Frequency Chest Wall Oscillations), mucus is loosened, liquified, and moved from smaller to larger airways from where it can be coughed up. This system also produces greater airflow to help move secretions out of the lungs through coughing, swallowing or suctioning if needed. And this brings us to our next point!
Some patients use the RespirTech inCourage System in conjunction with the CoughAssist T70 or the cheaper Hill-Rom VitalCough to help them cough up excess mucus. The inCourage System therapy is easy, highly effective & comfortable because all areas of the lungs are treated at the same time. Patients can also save time in their daily regimens by combining their nebulizer & vest treatments.
Easy inCourage Programming
The Respirtech inCourage can be used independently by most users, even children. Because this airway clearance system is specifically designed for simple, easy-to-use, one-button operation. The inCourage System can be programmed with very easy-to-follow instructions. You can also program and save individualized therapy sessions that work best for you. Therapy customization and clear, detailed therapy data are at your fingertips. It’s really that simple! No computer science degree or batteries are required.
inCourage Vest Garments
Some airway clearance vest systems can compress a patient’s chest. This can cause discomfort for some patients and making it difficult to take a deep breath. The Respirtech inCourage vest garments utilize active venting. This allows the chest to expand. Lung expansion is important for deep, comfortable breathing, even during treatment. Patient comfort leads to greater use and easier compliance with daily therapy. Increased and regular use of the system can result in better outcomes and fewer respiratory infections for chronic airway clearance conditions. Vest garments are available in 2-inch increments designed for the best fit. In turn, this maximizes treatment results. With other systems, garment choices are limited to small, medium, large and extra-large. A vest garment that is too small is extremely uncomfortable. A garment that is too big does not deliver effective treatments. Therefore, please don’t get a vest garment that is too large for your child and hope that the child will ‘grow into it. Best of all, these garments are machine washable! All you need to do is insert two supplied plastic plugs into the vest and wash it on a gentle cycle & hang the inCourage vest garment up to air dry.
There are two vest styles available for the inCourage system. These are the comfort vest and the comfort band. The RespirTech inCourage comfort vests are designed for users that can stand or sit independently. The inCourage comfort bands are for patients that are bedridden.
RespirTech inCourage – Triangle Waves
The inCourage system incorporates recent advances in vest therapy technology, including the triangle waveform. Patients that have used the inCourage system report that this triangle waveform therapy appeared more comfortable than the sine waves produced by most other air pulse technologies. Why? Because the duration of peak pressure is shorter, compared to similar airway clearance devices using a sine wave. Triangle waveform therapy may be more effective than sine wave treatments. Research has shown that the inCourage’s triangle shape air-pulse waveform maximizes mucus clearance. RespirTech claims that the triangle wave results in an additional 20% to 40% mucus clearance compared to other airway clearance systems.
Takeoff with the RespirTech inCourage QuickStart!
The Quick-Start feature will activate a pre-programmed 30-minute session that ramps up and down through a full range of therapeutic frequencies. A pre-programmed, 30-minute session stops regularly at five-minute intervals allowing users to cough up mucus, with a single push of a button. The system incorporates multi-step programming that permits users to enter and save up to 3 individualized sessions, with up to 12 different steps each.
inCourage vest – designed for ease-of-use & improved patient comfort
The inCourage system has been designed for ease of use as well as improved patient comfort. The air pulse unit has been reduced in size and weight to be as compact and light as possible. This is one well-designed airway clearance system and it gets high marks for quality and durability. You don’t have to scroll through multiple menus to find all the information you need. You don’t have to be a programmer to fine-tune your treatment. And the vest garments are top-notch, designed for long life.
inCourage Locking Hoses
REAL Locking Hose Connectors are standard on all inCourage systems! These locking hoses keep the vest garment securely connected to the air pulse unit. No more unruly air hoses like some other systems that like to detach. As these locking hoses take a bit more effort to attach, many users just leave them attached in between treatment sessions.
